Random Late Night Thoughts

So, I'm sitting here thinking about the Jays next season (I have not given up on this year, I just like to think ahead), and I have come to the conclusion that Alex Rios or Vernon Wells needs to be traded.

They are too similar to be in the same batting order, expecially hitting back to back. And neither is all that awesome to begin with.

To make this offense the best it can be, you need to add the impact of a pure DH.

Carlos Delgado, Jim Thome, and Jason Giambi are all free agents after this season and all would be an offensive upgrade over Rios or Wells, from a power perspective.

Trading Wells or Rios allows Adam Lind to play LF and Travis Snider to play RF every day.

Also being able to trade Lyle Overbay (who I love, defensively) and bring in a guy who hits like a 1B. Adam Lind could convert to 1B to help this, allowing the Jays to bring in a guy who is all offensive in LF, an Adam Dunn type.

I also think the Jays should trade for a SS, and sign him long-term. I am thinking JJ Hardy. The Jays have so many young pitchers that the Brewers could use and a SS waiting in AAA who is a top prospect.

I also think the Jays need a catcher for a couple years. If the Indians are keep on keeping Victor Martinez long-term, Kelly Shoppach would be a nice pick-up and the Jays could deel one of their catching prospects and a young arm (of the Robert Ray variety) to do it.

Hopefully Alex Rios has a good second half, or Vernon Wells an amazing one, and the Jays can trade Rios/Wells to a big market for prospects or a good #2 type starter (Matt Cain?).

My perfect trades (Under these circumstances, JP Riccardi is not GM, even though I am a fan):

To Milwaukee: Jesse Litsch & Kevin Ahrens
To Toronto: JJ Hardy & 72 Hr window to sign multi-year contract

To San Francisco: Vernon Wells
To Toronto: Matt Cain

To Cleveland: Brian Jeroloman & Robert Ray
To Toronto: Kelly Shoppach

To Washington: David Purcey & Jeremy Accardo
To Toronto: Adam Dunn & 24 yr window to sign new contract

To New York Mets: Lyle Overbay
To Toronto: Prospect

Under those circumstances, this would be my ideal roster, if life were a video game.

C: Kelly Shoppach
1B: Adam Lind
2B: Aaron Hill
3B: Scott Rolen
SS: JJ Hardy
LF: Adam Dunn
CF: Alex Rios
RF: Travis Snider
DH: Carlos Delgado

Bench: Joe Inglett, Russ Adams, JP Arencibia, Randy Ruiz

Rotation
1. Halladay
2. Cain
3. Marcum
4. Romero
5. McGowan

Bullpen
Downs, Ryan, Janssen, League, Tallet, Richmond, Carlson

Mills, Cecil, and Fabio Castro make up the potential rotation replacements in AAA.

This is a dream world, but the payroll would still be under $100 Million.

Well, enough of this nonsense, I'm fucking tired.
