Jays News From The Last Week Or So

Transactions from the last week or so:

Brian Wolfe was demoted in favour of Dirk Hayhurst, who has been good since getting the call to pitch in low leverage situations.

Casey Janssen has hit the DL with a shoulder strain and Brad Mills is getting the call to start in his place.

The Jays also signed David Delucci (best known for being shitty) to a minor league deal. He should get the call after they get back from the road games in interleague. He has been pretty decent so far in AAA, but he is no Brett Harper.

Scotty Downs tweaked something running out a grounder, and he may hit the DL.

Roy Halladay suffered a groin strain and could miss 2 starts. I'd kiss it to make it better if I could.

The Draft:

I'm not an expert by any means on high school players and college guys, but I love the draft.

The Jays look to have had a good draft with the selection of a college starter in the 1st and suplemental rounds. RH 1st rounder Stephen Jenkins could come quickly if he can pitch well, while Canadian supplemental pick James Paxton, lefty, should take longer. His stuff is better, with a mid to high 90's heater, is better than most in the organization.

I hate the 3rd round pick of high school lefty and Canadian Jake Elopoulos. I looks like a stretch pick from what I've read and seems like a "Canadian pick."

I am also very happy with RHP Jake Barrett out of high school and Jacob Marisnick, a high school OF. Both look like steals who had at least 2nd round talent.

My 2 favourite picks though, are 2B Ryan Schimpf and SS Ryan Goins. Both have incredible college stats and could move quickly through the system.

It is still too early to tell if any of these guys can crack the Jays top 10 list next year, but I am anxious for the short season teams to start up.
