So, finally, I have gotten around to checking out the minor league rosters for the Jays.
I'm actually surprised where a couple of the guys are.
Let's start with the Las Vegas 51's, the new AAA affiliate.
Pitchers:
Jeremy Accardo, Jonah Bayliss, TJ Beam, Bryan Bullington (SP), Brian Burres - L (SP), Brett Cecil - L (SP), Dirk Hayhurst, Wade Miller (SP), Brad Mills - L (SP), Bill Murphy - L, Robert Ray (SP), Davis Romero - L (SP), Sean Stidfole, and Brian Wolfe.
The rosters are a little weird in the minors, with a few spots for extras. There is plenty of MLB experience here, from a successful closer (Accardo) to good middle relief (Wolfe) and a former promising star (Miller).
The prospects to look at are Mills & Cecil first & foremost. Robert Ray is a guy I like, and I think could be a sleeper.
Position Players:
JP Arencibia (C), Raul Chavez (C), Russ Adams (2B/OF), Scott Campbell (3B/2B), Howie Clark (3B/1B), Brett Harper (1B/3B), Joe Inglett (IF/OF), Randy Ruiz (1B), Angel Sanchez (SS), Buck Coats (OF), Jason Lane (OF), and Aaron Matthews (OF).
Howie Clark is a name that pops out like your first boner. No matter how many times he gets cut, he seems to find his was back, almost like a retarded dog that just doesn't know he's useless. Maybe the Jays should just take him behind the shed, and pull the trigger once and for all. I kid. I like Howie, and he provides depth should the Jays ever need anyone to get embarrassed by A-Rod (again) near the end of the season.
Jason Lane had the huge spring, so he should be the first OF up when Wells gets hurt. and Joe Inglett should be back when McDonald gets released.
The prospects are the future 30 HR catcher of the future, JP Arencibia. I get hard just thinking about the line-up with a power hitting catcher. Sure, he will strike out a ton and won't walk, but walking is for faggots. Chicks dig the long ball.
Another prospect to look at is Scott Campbell, who could be up if the Jays trade Rolen to someone who likes a small sample size of health. I'm not sure on Campbell yet, I think he could be no better than Howie Clark, meaning a solid hitter, but not enough glove for 2B or bat for 3B. Meh, I'm still intrigued.
New to the organization are Brett Harper & Randy Ruiz, a couple AAAA types. Angel Sanchez is also new and could see time if McDonald gets released and the Jays decide they need a back-up SS. Harper & Ruiz probably won't get a call, but will hit enough to deserve it.
Onto AA, with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Pitchers:
Randy Boone (SP), Leon Boyd, Fabio Castro - L (SP), Zach Dials, Reider Gonzalez (SP), Rommie Lewis - L, Adrian Martin, Marty McLeary (SP), Luis Perez - L (SP), Celson Polanco, Marc Rzepczynski - L (SP), David Shinskie, and Nathan Starner - L.
Leon "Dutch Clutch" Boyd is a name that instantly deserves some attention. The Netherlands closer during the WBC (actually born in Vancouver, so Oh fucking Canada), Boyd chose to sign with Toronto, assuming he had a choice. He could move quickly if he for real.
Fabio Castro is a familiar name, as he came over for "The Walrus," Matt Stairs, in August last year. Marty McLeary is another Canadian, who has a little MLB experience.
The prospects here are decent: Rzepczynski, a control type lefty, similar to Brad Mills. Dials is a solid relief prospect. Gonzalez & Perez have great arms, but are a little inconsistent.
Position Players:
Brian Jeroloman (C), Kyle Phillips (C), David Cooper (1B), Jon Diaz (SS/2B), Brian Dopirak (1B), Brad Emaus (2B/3B), Chris Gutierrez (SS/2B), Luis Sanchez (2B/SS), Adam Calderone (OF), Todd Donovan (OF), Nick Gorneault (OF), Cody Hearther (OF), and Sean Shoffit.
Emaus and Cooper are the big names to watch here, as they could be the future corner infielders for the Jays. Jeroloman & Dopirak are also names to watch. Hearther is a name that is familiar, as he was bounced around like a god-damned yo-yo between the Cardinals & Jays organizations on waiver pick-ups.
Tomorrow, High & Low A ball. Ya!
