Well, for starters, April Fools Day. Fuck April Fools. Right in it's filthy asshole.
Saltalamacchia, Chris Davis, and Neftali Feliz got traded to the Mets for Pelfrey, Flores, Gee, and a PTBL? Really?
Tony Romo for Jay Cutler? Really?
Fucking Lame.
Another, the decision making of the whoever decided which players to bring to Toronto to start the season.
Why did Millar really deserve to make the team? And why so quick to say that there is no interest in Sheff? He would be cheaper than Millar, and is supperior in every way. But I guess Millar's .200 batting average was too much to pass up.
And Joe Inglett in the minors? Why? RELEASE JOHN MCDONALD. Please, for the love of God, please release John McDonald and allow Inglett to be where he actually deserves to be. McDonlad doesn't hit well enough to have a job in AAA, let alone the Major Leagues.
And as much as I don't like Camp or Frasor making the team over Accardo, I understand that there isn't enough of a difference in performance to justify losing Camp or Frasor for nothing. But, why didn't they trade one or the other? San Diego has been picking up scraps all spring, and Camp/Frasor are both better than anything San Diego has not named Heath Bell.
Also, what was the point of bringing in Chavez if Barrett was going to get the back-up nod the entire time? Chavez out-hit Barrett this spring and has a much better defensive track record.
How the fuck did Jason Lane not win a reserve spot over Millar? Lane was one the Jays top players this spring, yet gets demoted and sees a guy who he outplayed and a guy with no devensive skills at all get a job that should have been his. I never though I would see Inglett get optioned so that Millar and Bautista could both be on the team.
And someone remind me again why Bautista even got tendered a contract? What was the fucking point?
On another topic, a whole slew of guys have been released the last 2 days, includind Gary Sheffield, Geoff Jenkins, Frank Catalanotto, Scott Podsednik, Mike Lamb, Dallas McPherson, and Wily Mo Pena. This group adds to Adam Eaton, who was released with $12M or so left on his deal. I would never think that a team would allow a guy who could be productive go to another team, while still paying his full salary. But I also wouldn't mind seeing the Jays release McDonald, Bautista, and Barajas.
Of the above group, pretty much all of them are upgrades at some level for the Jays bench players, which is kind of pathetic.
The pitching staff, though, was actually allowed to carry over from last year (well, the bullpen) which might bode well for a good season of pitching. The rotation looks weak, but if Cecil can come in mid-season and provide a spark and another young guy (Robert Ray maybe) can come up and throw some solid innings, I could see this group being pretty good.
Maybe the Jays will stink so bad, while Rolen & Overbay rake, that they can have a decent firesale and not have to eat much money on Rolen, Overbay, and Ryan. Wishfull thinking, but it's all I've got.
